「アクセシブルデザイン推進協議会」とは？（What's ADC）
「アクセシブル・デザイン」は、ユニバーサル･デザイン（欧州ではデザイン・フォー・オール）に含まれる概念で、「何らかの機能に制限のある人に焦点を合わせ、これまでの設計をそのような人々のニーズに合わせて拡張することによって、製品や建物やサービスをそのまま利用できる潜在顧客数を最大限まで増やそうとする設計」と定義されています。
“Accessible designs” is defined as “designs focused on principles extending standard design to people with some type of performance limitation to maximize the number of potential customers who can use products, buildings, and services. This guide also describes the following three points as a way for implementing the accessible designs.
高齢者・障害者配慮の標準化やＲ＆Ｄに関し、各種行政、産業界、高齢者・障害者を含む消費者団体、学識経験者等で協議できる新たな組織です。
The Accessible Design Council (ADC) is a new organization where people from various administrative bodies, industries, and consumer organization including older persons and persons with disabilities as well as people of learning and experience can discuss standardization and R&D addressing the needs of older persons and persons with disabilities.

- What is the aim of the Accessible Design Council (ADC)? How is its operations budgeted?

- 情報交換と政府への提言が目的である。アクセシブルデザインの普及のために、それぞれの団体のノウハウを共有することを目指しているが、ADCが直接規格を作ることはしていない。事業費は、今現在必要に応じて幹事団体が出資し運営している。
- Answer:
- The ADC is committed to exchanging information among its members and coming up with recommendations to the government. While the ADC aims to create a forum for sharing know-how among its members to help diffuse accessible design, it does not go as far as to directly work out standards by itself. Its operations are funded by contributions from managing affiliates as needed.
「アクセシブルデザイン推進協議会」が目指すもの
わが国の急速な高齢化に対応するため、産業界、学会、政府はアクセシブルデザインに関するルールづくり（標準化）、調査研究、研究開発等の施策を推進しています。
アクセシブルデザイン推進協議会は、各業界間が集約・蓄積してきた情報や専門的なノウハウを、継続的・効率的に活用できる体制を構築するとともに、アクセシブルデザインシンポジウムを開催し高齢者・障害者配慮の施策の普及・促進を目指しています。
